Tell us a bit about yourself
I am a 30YO from Massachusetts, with two daughters and a lovely wife. During the day, I teach 6th grade math. I have been designing for about a year and a half.
How did you become a digiscrap designer?
I had just really started digiscrapping, and I entered a quick page exchange at Pillowgirl’s blog. Pillowgirl and I became fast friends. When she was thinking about opening My Scrap Shop, she started to push me to start designing. One day, while at school, I started toying around and made my first felt penguin…that night, I told Pillowgirl it was a go.
What software do you use?
I started using PSE5, but now I am using CS3 and Illustrator for most of my design work.
Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes from all around me. Most often, I pull inspiration from magazines and catalogs (LOVE Pottery Barn Kids!). I also often pull design from things I see out in the real world, like while shopping at Target. My Blackberry is full of photos of things that inspire me.
Do you have a particular style?
I think it’s fun to see how my style has changed over the past few months. I tend to do whimsical, fun designs and often now have some doodled aspect to them. I am just starting to experiement with extracting and felt. I am also starting to explore the idea of boy kits…I am so used to doing girl kits, that boy kits are way outside my box.
What’s your favourite product you’ve designed?
My favorite product so far would have to be a toss up between
Arithmetic of Love and
Game Time. I love Game Time for the awesome colors and old-school look to it, and I love Arithmetic of Love because it really married together my digi-life and my real life job.
Your number one tip for scrappers and/or designers?
I think that my number one tip would be to reallyl scrap and/or design what makes YOU happy. I think it’s so easy to get lost into what is “trendy” or what sells well, but that’s a quick road to burn out. I learned that lesson the hard way…if you make what makes you happy, it will make others happy too!
